Great for the Hobby

Stock Class Mako

Greetings,

As the racing season goes on, like all racers, I've been working on building better, more competitive cars. The search for the sometimes illusive "right combination" brings you in contact with racers, builders, suppliers and collectors alike. There has been talk lately, amoung these groups, about the resurgence of a National Championship. I, like many others, am a proponent. I am therefore asking everyone who cares, to help champion this cause. A National Championship would do wonders for our hobby. There are some true slotcar icons that have been throwing this idea around for quite some time. I am therefore encouraging everyone to talk it up with anyone involved. Maybe we can help get something off the ground.

Someone who cares, Serge

Serge; What I would like to see is a National Championship conducted like the original Aurora ones. You purchased a kit  from the race sponsor which contained a stock car, oil, decals-whatever was in the kit and sponsor approved. You could set up the car with only what was in the kit-so if it included an awl or a screw driver you could say ream out axle races, the armature hole, release any bound hubs, adjust brush tension-you get the idea. It may include one type of tire for the race set-up and say a fine sandpaper for trueing. Every racer would use the same controller. In this setting the differences lie in the skill of the racer as all other variables are eliminated or at least reduced. Races would be conducted on the same layout schematic with the same type track. Perhaps Henry Harnish can shed some light as to how it was conducted by Aurora. Classes would be determined by the stock chassis type, so it could be T-Jet, various AFX permutations, and whatever is decided as a newer chassis type that is interesting among contestants such as Tomy AFX, BSRT, etc. The same formula would hold so not to be any variables within the classes aside from racer skill. Of course Riggen cars could participate within their particular class too. No one potentially would be left out, and there would be a bazillion classes so we would have a national champion in each class. Expense of course would be travel, board, and kit cost. Savy? Living in a capitalistic society, I'm sure sponsors will help determine the classes and rules. I'm with you about making it a driver's race.

I've heard that when Johnny Lightning was in the mix, Ford was interested in getting involved again. I don't know about that now, with the economy and all. Anyway talking about it, is good. After all, isn't that how Woodstock 2 got started.(disappointing, maybe not a good example)

If anyone knows more, Please Enlighten Us! I would be more than be willing to help organize a regional championships in the Rocky Mountain Area. I'm not the only one.

Thanks, Serge

Matt,

I think we are still trying to figure out a date!

Serge and Matt; I'm still in but have not moved on it yet except to begin to build up a break-in track. My wife went to a physical theraphy session today in Oxford, went by to check on the house, and descovered that the hot water heater main pipe into the house had burst. It is of insurance company magnatude and will require fans, contractors, of course new plumbing, and floor replacement in some areas of the house. Matt-I am sure that you have guns of large calibur so you may shoot me. Our 20 gauge quail guns are not quite up to the task like I would want them to be-not as spontaneous. I went by last Thursday and nothing was amiss. I say let the insurance company declare it a total loss (that will never happen), bulldoze the sucker like they do on HOME IMPROVEMENT, then build a Hearthstown hand hewn log cabin in it's stead. Now that is a thought! I could be preoccupied here for awhile! God Bless! TonyCoolmgbbrown

sorry to hear about that tony. it sucks dealing with the insurance companies.  they love your cash tho, until its time to make em pay out. keep on em. dont worry about the race, gives me some more time to make another XT that runs like this one so i can keep one here for friday nights, and send the other one in to the boss to do battle.

i hope y'all bring your best XTs to challenge mine. the matt special sticks like glue and runs like a stock SRT. i may run it against the SRTs on this friday and see how well it does, kinda like bringing a knife to a gun fight, but maybe winning, LOL

Tony,

If I lived any closer I'd be over there in a minute. All I can give you is some mental support. Like myself, there are some members in the building trades. Email me if you need some advice.

Well Serge; I waited on the SERVCO boys from 4PM until 6:45PM EST. A buckled floor in the laundry room, a bowed-in door to the closet. Two dehumidifiers. Mold. They spoke of chemicals and sealing off that portion of the house. The adjuster from Kemper comes tomorrow. Maybe we can get some upgrades out of the deal. I know one thing-the hot water heater will be rerouted to the garage. At the very least I am thankful now to be in Raleigh and have a place to stay! I say shoot a video with me as a one legged nurse (the leg is just held with a sling behind my back of course) and my wife as a disabled special ed teacher and Ty Pennington can bull doze the thing for sure! God Bless! TonyCoolmgbbrown

my water heater is in the garage, it has a pan under it, with a length of pvc pipe that drains out to where the main floor concrete slab drops off to the garage bay area. this way if mine breaks i only have to sweep the water out the garage door. i also have 1/4 turn shutoffs on my clothes washer, and i close those valves every time after i use the clothes washer. its not good for those rubber hoses to be constantly under pressure.

tony i know this advice is a little too late. kinda like closing the barn door after the horse runs away. but when i go on trips, i shut off the water at the main going into the house. my water main valve and meter are in my alley, and i have a rebar t handle to close off the valve. got my t handle at lowes cheap like $10.00

just like at my work, i follow lock out tag out procedures LOL

just a thought

Matt; This is indeed good advice and I am thankful for it. I am so fortunate to have so many friends with wisdom and encouragement! We will be rerouting the hot water heater into the garage. This is now a standard feature of current residential buildings. Thanks man! God Bless! TonyCoolmgbbrown

Tony my heartfelt prayers and good wishes go out to you, about 3 years ago my parents had a similar occurence, $30,000 in damages, and 8 months in a rented condo, Thankfully it wasn't too much of a fight with the insurance company.  Fight for every last dime I say, thats why you pay the premiums!
