Rare and Hard To Find or just a production slip up?

Aurora AFX Rallye Ford Escort #46.

Take a good look at these two Aurora AFX Rallye Ford Escorts. I recently got these from an Aussie seller who claims that one of the two cars is quite rare. These cars are subtley different and if not viewed alongside each other, then it isn't apparent. I had to look twice but it is noticeable when they are side by side.

I'm not convinced the different car is unique or rare for that matter. It isn't listed in Bob Beers book anyway but it could be just a case of different factories making slightly different cars. The chassis' are both AFX Super Magnatraction despite the different coloured rims, but aside from this, can you pick the difference?

the one with the white wheels has more of a gold tone finish than the one with the red wheels.

Angel; Perhaps it would prudent to examine several of the chrome AFX Can-Am Porsche's to see if the chrome varied in color as these nice Escort's do. Plastic is now vacuum chromed, and produces a far more consistent and durable finish than that originally used by Aurura on styrene. I am not an expert on the chroming process that Aurora used so I cannot speak with any authority. In the automotive world, zinc plated metal parts can either be yellow or white, and was the process that replaced the earlier cadmium plating. My point is that variability does exist within a single plating process and that may be the case here. As for the different colored rims-I would think that the factory coordinated the red rims originally to match the body paint scheme but the white rims could have been swapped out at any point in the car's history or the current chassis, although identical in type, was not the original one supplied with the car and perhaps lacked red wheels. NICE though! God Bless! Tonymgbbrown

Angel, I don't know which you have, rarity or defect. Factory defects do occur in the little car world as you know. Here is one I bought in around 1966.
